Preseident Li Xiaolin Meets with Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveries
President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Andrew Liveris, Chairman and CEO of Dow Chemical on October 19.
The two sides have extensively exchanged views on agriculture, food safety, China-US cooperation, the US Presidential Election and other issues of common concerns. Mr. Liveris gave his new bestselling book on sustainable development to President Li as a gift. The meeting went on in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.
Dow Chemical has been supported and engaged in the Rainbow Bridge Project launched by CPAFFC for a long time. Mr. Andrew Liveris became a member of the Global CEO Council in 2013.
CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin Meets with President of Algeria China Friendship Association
President Li Xiaolin met with Smail Debeche, President of the Algeria China Friendship Association (ACFA) on 13 October.
President Li welcomed President Debeche to visit China. She said, the CPAFFC has maintained sound cooperation with the ACFA with President Debeche as its leader, and both associations have made positive contribution to the promotion of bilateral people-to-people friendship. As a firm supporter of China, Dr. Debeche has been for long publishing political commentary articles on mainstream Algerian media to reiterate China’s just advocates on regional and international issues, which has greatly raised the image of China in Algeria. This January, President Debeche was conferred the “China Arab Friendship Outstanding Contribution Award”, and had the honor of having a group photo with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This fully demonstrates the importance that China, especially the Chinese leader has attached to enhancing the people-to-people friendly cooperation between China and Arab, as well as our appreciation towards President Debeche’s efforts in promoting the healthy development of Algeria China friendship.
Debeche considered being given the “China Arab Friendship Outstanding Contribution Award” and having the opportunity of a group photo taken with President Xi the greatest honor of his life. According to him, China is the first non-Arab country to recognize Algeria, since when bilateral relations have enjoyed sound growth, and the Algeria-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was established in 2014. Our two countries hold same positions on anti-terrorism, international or regional issues. He hoped that China and Algeria could enhance cooperation in all fields, particularly in intensifying China’s investment and transfer of technology to Algeria.

President Li Xiaolin Meets with Lord Powell, member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament
On 12th October, President Li Xiaolin of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) met with Lord Powell, member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament. The two sides have extensively exchanged views on China-UK exchanges and cooperation, China -UK Regional Leaders Summit, refugees crises in Europe, the US Presidential Election, North Korea’s nuclear issue, world and regional situation, and other issues of common concern to both sides.
President Li thanked Lord Powell for his hospitality to the Chinese local leaders attending the Inaugural China-UK Regional Leaders Summit back in March this year. She is ready to work with the UK to deliver more fruitful cooperation under the framework of “Belt and Road” Initiative. Vice President Song briefed him on the history of the CPAFFC and its work in people-to-people diplomacy, local government cooperation, public diplomacy, and public welfare.
Lord Powell thanked the CPAFFC for inviting him to visit China and for its considerate arrangements. He expects a bigger role of the CPAFFC in promoting people’s friendly exchanges and cooperation around the world and in safeguarding world peace.

President Li Xiaolin Attends the United Nations “Every Woman Every Child” High Level Advisory Group Meeting
The United Nations “Every Woman Every Child” (EWEC) High Level Advisory Group (HLAG) meeting was held on Sept. 20th in UN headquarters in New York. Guests presented included UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, HLAG Co-Chair H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria, President of the Republic of Chile, Alternate co-Chair H.E. Ms. Tarja Halonen, former President of the Republic of Finland and H.E. Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, as well as HLAG Members Ms. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Former Prime Minister of Denmark & CEO of Save the Children, Mr. Anthony Lake, Executive Director of UNICEF & Chair of the H6, Ministers from Canada, Norway, Senegal and UAE, Leadership from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other world renowned foundations, enterprises and international NGOs. President Li Xiaolin attended the meeting and delivered a speech as the only Chinese representative authorized by the Chinese Central Government.
President Li congratulated on the upgrading of HLAG into High Level Steering Group (HLSG) in next year. She said that CPAFFC would support EWEC as always by leveraging its rich resources in Chinese localities and international sister cities, to accelerate EWEC processing into local levels in China; meanwhile mobilizing more resources through nearly 500 NGOs which have established cooperative partnership with CPAFFC and the EWEC China Partnership Network to support the EWEC overseas projects. President Li also suggested that members of HLAG should enhance coordination and collaboration to make contribution to the Global Strategy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants all spoke highly of President Li’s speech. The host of the meeting Mr. Kikwete complimented her speech to be “the support from a powerful organization”.
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed his gratitude to all members of HLAG in his concluding remarks, for their long-term support to EWEC and the Global Strategy launched by him. He extended his wish that when he left the office, HLAG would keep on advocating all fields to support this cross-industry cross-field international partnership platform, to further the cause of improving the health of women, children and adolescents and implement the SDGs, with the aim of achieving the goal of ending all preventable deaths of women, children and adolescents in 2030.
HLAG was established in Jan. 2016, with members including Presidents and Prime Ministers, former high-ranking politicians, leaderships of NGOs, foundations and multinational enterprises. Participants at the meeting reached the consensus to upgrade HLAG into HLSG in 2017, and invite the new UN Secretary General to be the Senior Co-Chair of the Group. HLAG and HLSG will attract the engagement of all walks of life at the highest level to promote the development of EWEC and the Global Strategy. After the meeting, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon launched the Global Financing Fund (GFF), with the goal of raising 33.3 billion dollars to fill in the capital gap for developing the health of women, children and adolescents.
CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin Meets with San Marino-China Friendship Association President Franco Terenzi
Mr. Franco Terenzi, former Captain Regent and President of San Marino-China Friendship Association paid an offical call upon CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin on September 13.
President Li spoke highly of the efforts and contributions made by President Franco Terenzi to the friendship between China and San Marino for many years. She also invited President Franco Terenzi to attend the International Friendship Cities Conference to be held in Municipality of Chongqing in November this year. President Franco Terenzi thanked President Li for inviting him and introduced the situation about the commemorative activities of the 45 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and San Marino which was held by CPAFFC in Shanghai. He expected to further develop friendly cooperation with CPAFFC.

President Li Xiaolin Meets with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuân Phuc of Vietnam
On September 13, President Li Xiaolin met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam during his visit to China.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sang a high praise for the effort by CPAFFC and China-Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFA) over the years in promoting bilateral friendship. He said that the friendship between Vietnam and China was meticulously cultivated by Chairman Mao Zedong, and Chairman Ho Chi Minh and many Chinese and Vietnamese leaders of elder generations. We should well maintain and develop the bilateral traditional friendship together. He said the current Vietnam-China relationship enjoys an overall sound development and fruitful cooperation in various fields. The maritime issue is the only problem facing the two countries. The Vietnamese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to properly handle the problem and to maintain good bilateral relations based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
President Li expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Nguyen for the meeting amid his busy schedule. She said that the China-Vietnam traditional friendship of “Comrade and Brothers” is extremely valuable, and the two sides have extensive common interests. She hoped that the maritime issue can be properly solved through negotiation and consultation on the basis of mutual respect, equity and mutual benefit, rather than “losing the main goal for the small gains”. The CPAFFC will make concerted and continuous effort with the Vietnam side to make greater contribution to the bilateral friendship.

President Li Xiaolin Meets with Secours Populaire Français Delegation
CPAFFC President Li Xiaolin met with Secours Populaire Francais (SPF) delegation in the Main Building in CPAFFC at 11 A.M. on September 12.
President Li Xiaolin said that SPF is the most effective partner in France cooperating with CPAFFC. SPF had developed various charitable activities in China covering education, medical, poverty alleviation, disaster relief and youth exchange since it cooperated with CPAFFC in 2007, which achieved better social repercussions. President Li hoped that the two organizations could continue strengthening the exchanges and expanding the cooperative fields so as to further promote the friendship between China and France, and the world peace.
Mme. CORINNE MAKOWSKI, Secretary of Secretariat National of SPF, said that the current international situation is not optimistic. Terrorist attack, refugee and other problems became more and more severe in Franc and Europe, which we need to link up people in different countries. SPF paid attention to the partnership with CPAFFC and tried to expand new fields to cooperate.
Mme. AICHA MOKDAHI, the member of SPF Council and the Chairman of Fondation Essilor, expressed that the delegation would visit Xing County, Shanxi Province this time and test the vision of women and children in the area and provided free glasses for them. She hoped that this kind of testing organizations could be established in poverty provinces in China and could provide vision care for women and children.
President Li Xiaolin gave support to the new program which will be developed by SPF and appreciated it. She said that CPAFFC will continue strengthening the cooperation with SPF to develop the poverty alleviation program in China and improve the living conditions of poverty regions in China.
President Li Xiaolin Attends the Opening Ceremony of World Philanthropy Forum
The World Philanthropy Forum co-hosted by CPAFFC, Tsinghua University and China Soong Ching Ling Foundation was held in Beijing on Sept. 5th. The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon sent a congratulatory letter to the forum. President Li Xiaolin attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon sent his wishes for a successful forum. He said in his letter, “ China and its people have a long tradition of giving, and Chinese philanthropy has made significant contributions to education, health and the environment. Now there are many areas pressing human need. Partnerships among stakeholders across diverse sectors and cultures will be critical for lasting solutions. Let us work together to advance peace, development, human rights, dignity and opportunity for all.”
President Li briefed the famous philanthropy projects carried out by CPAFFC in recent years, and made a detailed introduction about the cooperation with UN “Every Woman Every Child” Initiative. She called for the engagement of all people of vision to join “Every Woman Every Child” China Partnership Network, to make contribution to the development of the lofty cause--promoting the health of women, children and adolescents worldwide. She pointed out that the philanthropy cause in China had achieved great progress in these years, however, there still remained problems. This forum had provided an international exchanges cooperative platform for the philanthropy institutions, enterprises, organizations and individuals who were devoted to philanthropy in China, which would promote the our philanthropy cause to develop vigorously in a healthy and orderly way.
The participants of the forum included the top scholars and practitioner of philanthropy on a global scale, as well as representatives of all fields. Fruitful exchanges and discussion have been made to strengthen international academic exchanges in the philanthropic field, and endeavor to facilitate China's participation in the United Nations initiative of creating a bright future where everyone is free from want, has opportunities of development, and lives with dignity. President Li Xiaolin Meets with Algerian Ambassador to China
President Li Xiaolin met with Mr. Ahcène BOUKHELFA, Algerian Ambassador to China on August 24.
President Li congratulated Ahcène BOUKHELFA on taking his new office. She said that China and Algeria share profound traditional friendship. They had established the strategic cooperation relationship since 2004. The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the Chinese-Arab Friendship Association (CAFA) have been keeping close contact with Algeria-China Friendship Association (ACFA) for several years and have made actively efforts on promoting the friendship of the two peoples. When Chinese President Xi Jinping was visiting Egypt in January 2016, CPAFFC held the awarding ceremony on China-Arab Friendship Outstanding Contribution Award, President Xi met with the winner ACFA President Smail Debeche, and this completely proved that the Chinese side paid high attention to develop the friendly cooperation of the people-to-people between China and Algeria. In the future, the both sides should work together to present the active factors of the bilateral relations to the two peoples, especially the youth.
Ahcène BOUKHELFA said that China is one of the first group countries that have given support to the Algerian liberation cause. CPAFFC plays important and historical roles in developing friendship between China and Algeria. The Embassy of Algeria in China is willing to further collaborate with CPAFFC to promote the cooperation in the sectors of political, economy and trade, culture and academy.
