Reception Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Nepal and the People's Republic of China Held in Beijing

On July 30, 2025, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the Embassy of Nepal in China jointly hosted a reception in Beijing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People's Republic of China.  Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the event. Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; Lu Shaye, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs; Zhang Jun, Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia; Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of the CPAFFC; Zhang Baoqun, Deputy Director-General of the Office for International Military Cooperation of Central Military Commission of People's Republic of China; Krishna Prasad Oli, Nepalese Ambassador to China, as well as representatives from various sectors of two countries and diplomatic envoys from a number of other countries in China, totaling more than 200 participants, attended the event. Vice Chairman Xiao Jie and Ambassador Krishna Prasad Oli jointly lit a traditional Nepalese auspicious lamp and unveiled the commemorative envelope marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Vice President Lu Xiangdong and Ambassador Krishna Prasad Oli delivered speeches respectively.

In his remarks, Vice President Lu Xiangdong noted that China and Nepal are good neighbors, good friends, and good partners linked by mountains and rivers, with a friendship that stretches back through history. Over the 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Nepal ties—under the leadership of the two heads of state—have adhered to mutual support and win-win cooperation, setting a model of mutual respect, equality, and partnership between countries regardless of size. He stressed that China is ready to continue working hand in hand with Nepal, guided by the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries, to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and contribute to the sustained growth of the China-Nepal strategic cooperative partnership.

Ambassador Krishna Prasad Oli remarked that the friendship between Nepal and China is deeply rooted and long-standing. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Nepal has consistently upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the One-China principle. The two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, deepened strategic mutual trust, and achieved fruitful cooperation in trade, investment, education, tourism, climate change, and cultural exchanges. He expressed Nepal's sincere appreciation for China's support in advancing Nepal's economic development and for its assistance in times of natural disaster. He emphasized that Nepal is committed to maintaining the development momentum of bilateral strategic cooperation and to building an even stronger Nepal-China relationship in the years ahead.

Prior to the reception, Vice Chairman Xiao Jie met with Ambassador Krishna Prasad Oli for an exchange of views on China-Nepal relations and issues of mutual concern. During the reception, performers from two countries presented cultural programs showcasing traditional Chinese and Nepalese elements. The reception was marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere.
